Sign Up For This New Resource for Parents of Tweens and Teens

I was warned that parenting teens would be hard. I wasn’t prepared for the emotional rollercoaster of raising older kids in this crazy world. So I started a private group to connect with our parents of tweens and teens so we can help each other.

The world has changed so much since I launched YMC.ca over a decade ago. The internet was relatively new and social media was barely a blip back then. When I discovered the power of Twitter and Facebook to have realtime conversations with like minded women, it was like winning the emotional lottery. I found my parenting tribe online. At night I would secret myself up in the attic and vent online about the challenges of motherhood.

I can’t do that anymore.

My kids’ stories are now their own. I’m not comfortable talking about them publicly anymore ,unless they give permission. The truth is, many of the troubles teens are having are sensitive in nature. By respecting their privacy, I lost my place to share and commiserate with my peers.

And yet, everywhere I go, I meet moms and dads in panic mode trying to cope with the anxious, vaping, video-gaming, over-sleeping, under-motivated generation of teens and tweens. Clearly there is a need for a safe space for parents to know they’re not alone

Six months ago I launched a private group on Facebook for parents with tweens and teens. The conversations are both heartbreaking and inspiring. Some of us post about issues we need help with. Others post resources and success stories. It’s a great mix of crowd-sourced opinions and brainstorms to help us get through this bumpy parenting stage of raising teens.

If you have tweens or teens, feel free to request to join the YMC Teen Facebook Group. Remember, what happens in YMC Teen, stays in YMC Teen.
